Life takes over.

So, clearly my subscription has expired. I've been very busy. Aren't we all? What have I been up to? I quit my job at the bridal store because it was causing me panic attacks. That's usually a bad sign.

In July I worked on a movie, briefly. In August, I worked at the National Arts Centre on costumes for the Opera of Carmen. Now I'm busy making Halloween costumes and preparing costumes for the City of Ottawa's Kids' Halloween party. I are excited!

I've been making all sorts of Geeky jewelry, if you haven't already seen it, head over to my Etsy store (help support a starving artist!!)

I made an awesome watercolour painting of Wonder Woman a while back, I'm working on having it printed on some t-shirts. Stay tuned.

So, I set up a few facebook pages for various things.

MiyaCosplay. It's about time, isn't it? lol Facebook is so much easier to update than DA sometimes. Also, I have a full website to maintain. So... yeah.

CosplayTips. Cause, we can all use a bit of help sometimes.

WonderGeeksActivate Well, this is really a labor of love. I've been involved with WGA since January as the Executive producer. We just do a bunch of awesome fun things, so if you're in the Ottawa area, check us out. We're awesome. We host geeky art shows, video game nights, and burlesque shows. Yeah, I said burlesque.

Also, I'm on Instagram, if you follow that stuff.

Crafting like a madwoman! this is possibly going to be on a headband. And the donuts are earrings!

S U P E R     I M P O R T A N T     N E W S!!!
Hello again my old friends...
I've gone MIA again for a while. It seems like life has a funny way of taking over. I got a new job last November, and it has proven to gobble up all of my existence. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about you all...

I've been busy sewing and crafting my little heart out. For those of you who may not know, I am the overlord of a small business named SilverLotus Costumes. I've been working hard at it, but I need a bit of help. Perhaps even from you guys. I need to buy myself an industrial sewing machine, a new serger (mine is on its last leg, seriously) and an embroidery machine so that I can continue to make beautiful costumes and accessories. My dream is to make this my full-time job, and as it stands, I have to have a part-time job to pay the bills. This means that I'm not dedicating 100% of my time to making beautiful creations. I have TWO new lines of costumes and accessories already designed and ready to go: Tiny Lotus , a line of super-adorable, retro-inspired fashions for babies and toddlers, and Lolita by SilverLotus, I'm sure you can guess what that one is...  lol

So to help me get the new machines I need, I've started an Indiegogo campaign, which ends September 29th!! If you can contribute in any way (either money OR spreading the word!!) I would be so grateful! Join my facebook SilverLotus page, and you can easily 'share' the link from there.

AND! I'll be at Montreal Comic Con, September 14-16 giving various panels on costuming and Steampunk things. Come check it out if you're in the area, and say hello!!

What else is new...

:bulletpink: I've been doing many discussion panels on Steampunk costuming and even one on 18th century costuming! (I had about 80 attendees!) These were at G-Anime, Ottawa Comic Con, Polaris, and FanExpo.

:bulletpink: Fêtes de la Nouvelle France was a great success again this year. I hope to post pictures eventually. *sigh*

:bulletpink: Just came back from Fan Expo, and what a weekend! Also, photos to come...

ALSO If you guys have questions for me, please don't be shy! I try to respond to them as quickly as possible. It also helps if you're clear in your question-asking in the first place.

Hello Spring! Hello watchers!
School is finally done. *le sigh*  My Grad Show went amazingly, and in fact, I won the 2011 Ottawa U sculpture award. ZING!
Here are some pics from the Grad Show of my piece entitled

"Engineering of Submission: the intricacy of structured foldings"

Yes, that IS a life-sized crochet octopus hanging from the ceiling. It took me three months to create. There is also a semi-victorianesque dress comprising of unbleached cotton, embroidery, crochet, fur pelts, twigs, embroidery hoops and metallic thread. I guess you could try to take this all in, in a direct kind of way, but as a female artist, the octopus, to me anyway, represents the threat of the female craft being perceived as high art. It's all very spooky when women put their minds to things, let alone make crafty things that she creates as high art.  </sarcasm>

If you'd like to see more shots, please mosey on over to my personal art blog at edithchartier.blogspot.com

These are some of the inspirations behind my 18th century costumes, and perhaps they can be of use to you as well.
I'm starting to dislike photobucket. Photobucket seems to like getting rid of all the titles of the artworks when I upload them as well as change their order, which makes it a very tedious job to rename all of them. So if anyone has an idea for a better alternative (free would be lovely), please let me know!

:star: New pictures have been uploaded into my stock photo account. My friend Rob took pictures of me wearing a Greek-ish costume holding various water receptacles. Hope you enjoy!

Soooo, I figure this fella deserves some pageviews. He's a friend of mine and he's not terribly hard on the eyes. He makes his own costumes (mad props there), and although his ego certainly doesn't need any more inflating, I'll feature him anyway.

News
Hello my friends!
Yeah, it's been since Halloween since you've heard from me. I apologize. I've been super busy with school, and life in general. You know how it is.
This semester is my last at school, so it's buckling down time! I've been working on textile art and painting since September. Here's a sneak-peek if you're interested...
Yeah, I know, yet another blog to go check out...  lol

:bulletpink:Firstly, I'd like to thank Petra from ArtcoreCafe. She posted an entire section on her blog,
artcorecafe.wordpress.com/

Thanks to Petra, Laura from the Harlequin Romance Novel company contacted me from Toronto and asked to rent my Red Polonaise dress for a photoshoot for the cover of their upcoming novel.
I can't wait to share pictures with you guys (I don't have any yet).
As Laura asked me about the dress, I asked her if she needed a body to fill it, and she said they already had a model, but that she would keep me in mind for future projects, not to mention that she would rent more dresses from me, and perhaps even commission some as well! So, take a few minutes to go check out all the loveliness on her blog. I could spend days there!!!!
So, to you Petra, from ArtcoreCafe I thank you sincerely.
<3

:bulletpink: I taught myself to crochet two weeks ago. Expect to see some real purdy fingerless gloves...  as soon as I can figure out how to properly read patterns. LOL

:bulletpink: More cruelty-free feather fascinators are on their way! Check out my :bulletblue:Etsy Store:bulletblue:

:bulletpink: I'm still thinking about new dresses to make for next summer's Fêtes de la Nouvelle France. I found some exquisite gold-coloured silk with a chrysanthemum print on it in pale ivory... *swoon*

News

:skullbones: Good evening my rattly little sack 'o bones! OMG where has the time gone... Here's where:

August 27-29th: I was at FanExpo 2010 in Toronto, dressed like Dark Phoenix for a day, and then in Stemapunk attire for the two other days. I participated in the Steampunk Fashion Show on Saturday evening. I was also featured on the Marvel Facebook fanpage, as well as their regular page, in various photo albums. Yeah, I'm kind of a big deal...

September 4-5th: Attended a Victorian Festival in Victoriaville, Quebec. Lovely parade, and Victorian Ball. *swoon*

September 11th: I moved to a new apartment, and didn't have internet for almost a month. First, the new modem took forever to arrive, then the internet company took their sweet time, then they didn't send a technician when they had scheduled one... *dies*

:pumpkin: Halloween costume :pumpkin:

Since school has started and I haven't had a heck of alot of time to commit to a really extravagant or complicated costume...  I decided to go with a simpler costume that I've wanted to do for a long time;

Princess Jasmine!!

I've finished the costume, all I have left to do is make a wig, and the tiara. Oh, and also find some curly-toed shoes...

Here are a few of my favorite renditions of Princess Jasmine from DA

Other News

I'm still rearranging my new sewing room... it's kind of a disaster right now, with boxes of fabric all over the place... I hope to have it all nice and clean really soon so that I can get working on projects. It stresses me out not to know where stuff is. In happier news - The room is painted robin's egg blue, which is totally adorable, and I've covered the insert of my armoire doors with a white toile de Jouy that has a light blue pattern on it. [heart]

I've been working on paintings for school, and I've decided that they're all going to feature a representation of some dreams that I've had. So far, it's been going rather well. I'm just not sure if I want to put them up on DA yet... We'll see. This is my last year in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, so I really have to step it up so that I can have some amazing pieces to show at the Grad Show in April. Wish me luck! :star:

Mostly just school-related books. Sorry guys. A book about painting theory and colour; Books on dream interpretation...
